Cedar
Eastern red cedar, a small juniper common in Oklahoma and Arkansas, was inexpensive, light weight, rot resistant and smells great. The trees are small and so are the boards but not a problem for lining the insides of a steel boat creating the idea that you are inside of a wooden boat.
