Six weeks into our research expedition, we made the difficult decision to end our participation.

The problem wasn't the science—it was the pressure created by an inflexible schedule. At sea, weather, maintenance, and changing conditions require flexibility. When the schedule starts driving decisions instead of informing them, it's time to rethink the plan.
