Rules of Thumb

Rudder

http://www.marinesurveyorschool.org/pages/rudders.htm

Control Types: direct linkage: rack and pinion and worm gear, chain and cable using a quadrant, or radial-drive, enclosed cable, and hydraulic.

Should go over 35 degrees, and no more.

Rudder area = LWL x draft x 0.05   Seeker: 70*5.5*.05=19.25   Actual is 22.

Engine and Propeller Rotation

On "left hand engines" flywheel turns counter-clockwise as you face it from the back of the engine.  Or; from behind, the top of the flywheel moves to the "left".  And the top of a "left hand prop" also turns to the left as you look at it from behind the boat.  Left hand engines and left had props are the most common.
